In working to develop your academic skills better, it may be found that confidence will follow. Falling behind in work and classrooms can be a huge stressor for students, feeling confused while your peers seem as if they are getting it can be damaging hence why it can really help to have an external teacher who is keen on getting you to where you want to be within the classrooms.
We have had many students, and lots of them do better in school after some time but it is also the confidence change we see. Perhaps it is also in addition to being around other kids that need extra help, knowing that it is nothing to feel shameful about if you do not immediately get the concepts that are presented to you.
At Thornhill Learning Center, we know all of our students incredibly well and can implement this knowledge into how we approach the lesson, we have a lot of diverse methods and we work to create understanding at a fundamental level. We keep an open dialogue and always encourage questions. This aspect of personalized support is something we see that helps build a greater sense of self within their work. It is also a space that is free of judgment and a drive to see all do well which could decrease the amount of anxiety that surrounds learning.
It is also crucial to foster and encourage a growth mindset within students as this is something they can take with them.
