The evolution of artificial intelligence is occurring at a rapid pace. AI is not reaching the end of its lifespan anytime soon, so it is crucial for children to be able to keep up with face-paced changes. This can leave parents questioning what’s next for the future generations. What skills are we to teach to our children? The answer is far more complex than we may think.
In the face of technological advancements, one of the key aspects is an individual's ability to utilize their critical thinking skills. Why?
Many of the content being produced by AI could be inaccurate or out of date. When operating with these tools, it would be greatly beneficial to be able to critically analyze the content rather than trust AI completely. Furthermore, artificial intelligence and the ways in which it can be utilized to their fullest extent depends on the users ability to ask and understand what questions will allow them to get the answer they desire. In developing critical thinking skills, aspects of AI become more easily manoeuvred, ultimately allowing for optimal use of these tools.
Advancing critical thinking skills can range from something simple like encouraging them to solve real-world problems and then reflect; but it could also be fostering divergent thinking adjacent to the norm by providing diverse problems that explore a variety of perspectives.
