Integers can cause a lot of confusion for kids, and sometimes, number lines just don't do the trick. One of our team members came up with this unique way to use counters to help alleviate confusion for those learning, and we love it! Here's a step-by-step so you can utilize this method at home or at schools.
First! Section off the two different counters and give them a positive/negative values:
Second: Clarify what will happen when the signs connect and then set up the question where you'll take out the number of counters that match the signs and then line them up, taking away where they line up
Next, see what's left and get your answer!
